Comida do Sol is a Brazilian
food van offering a range of foods and drinks. This has been one of the busiest
food vans I have visited so far, with people queuing up to order their food. I
found the van in one of their usual spots down at Leighton Beach across from
the surf club. This is a very picturesque location and targets not only people
going to the beach but also those who are out enjoying the day and walking
along the coastline.
The food on offer is all
traditional Brazilian food, with most menu items being unfamiliar to me. The
photos on the menu are a huge help as it gives an idea of exactly what you are
ordering. I stepped up to the van and wanted to order the Coxinha, however I
had no idea on how to pronounce it. It seems as though they have come across
this dilemma before and the girl who served me was happy to help me with
pronouncing it properly, I’m still not sure how to say it though. However I am
sure they are happy to be introducing new foods to people from their own
culture.
Aside from the Coxinha, I
ordered an Argentinian style hotdog, a Choripán. The first thing I thought when
I was handed my hotdog was that the smell reminded me of my Nonno. Garlic,
oregano, parsley and olive oil are smells I have grown up with and also happen
to be the key ingredients to Chimichurri, an Argentinian sauce.
