A food van that focuses on
Dumplings, I am in heaven. I found this van in Perth on a Sunday out the front
of the Museum of WA. The owner of the van Roy is very nice and easy to talk to.
The van started from his idea a few years ago to sell Japanese dumplings
(gyoza) by rebranding them as Jumplings as he realized that the word “gyoza” is
difficult to pronounce for some. The pan-fried dumplings available from the van
are amazing. I ordered the ‘Slow cooked duck Jumplings with Udon noodles’ and
the ‘chicken Jumplings with Udon noodles’. Both were amazing but the standout
was the slow cooked duck. I’m a big fan of duck but purchasing it from the shop
is usually expensive so I was surprised at how cheap and how large the dish
was.
All ingredients used at Jumplings
are Australian with the majority being locally sourced. Jumplings has not only
a Facebook page but also its own website. The website offers a myriad of
information about the food van and Roy’s ultimate goals and aims for it. As you
are able to buy frozen Jumplings to take home and cook there are also
instructions on how to cook them yourself and what to have with them.
The Facebook page gives the
location and times for the van along with the usual photos. There are also
photos of the construction of the van that are very interesting for anyone
considering creating their own food van. With over 1,000 likes on Facebook and
constant updates on times and locations, they have made it very easy to find
the Jumplings truck.
There is also a website dedicated to Jumplings. The website has everything from the story of Jumplings and its owner, to recipes for the Jumplings. As you are able to now purchase Jumplings from a few select stores throughout Perth there are also instructions on how to cook your Jumplings at home. The website is great and full of information, it would help to update it more often but the link to the Facebook page and the live feed aid in keeping people up to date.
All up I loved the food available
from this van. Not only are the Jumplings amazing but so was everything else
they came with. The flavours were amazing and I found myself drinking the rest
of the soup once I had eaten every bit of cabbage out of the bottom of the tub.
I will be hunting this van down every opportunity I get.
